Join us for this humorous ninety-minute webinar to learn all about HIPAA, that 1996 federal law that governs the way everyone in health care (including interpreters and translators) handles private health information. As confidentiality is a critical element of our Code of Ethics, and as HIPAA is the law of the land regarding confidentiality in health care, it behooves us all to know this information. Whether a novice interpreter or seasoned professional, this webinar will bring you up to date on exactly what HIPAA – and confidentiality – means.

Who is teaching?  Cindy Roat is a national consultant and trainer with 23 years’ experience in the healthcare interpreting field. With an MPH in International Health Services, Cindy has made significant contributions to the healthcare interpreting field in the areas of training, program development, policy formulation, advocacy and organizational outreach. Her written works are key resources for interpreters, providers and administrators alike. Cindy was the principal author of Bridging the Gap, and her most recent book, Healthcare Interpreting in Small Bites, is being used as an ancillary text at many basic training programs. Ms. Roat is a former Co-chair of the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC), a founding member of WASCLA, current chair of the Community Interpreter Division of NOTIS, as well as being known nationally as an energetic advocate for the field of health care interpreting and for language access in general.

When? Two options:
· Participate in the live webinar on Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. PT, and have access to the recording through February 27, 2020,
· Or watch a recording of the webinar any time between February 13 and February 27, 2020.
Where? GoToWebinar. You will receive the webinar link by email on the day of the event. Attendees will need access to a computer with internet and speakers to listen to the presentation. Cost? $25 NOTIS members, $40 Non-members (Click to Join NOTIS).
Registration? Via the NOTIS website (by February 12th). After registering, you will receive an email confirmation; if you do not receive a confirmation, your registration did not go through. Mail-in registration is not available for this workshop.
Refunds? We regret that no refunds can be given after February 10th. A $10 processing fee will apply for all refunds.
CE credits? One (1) general continuing education credit has been approved by Washington AOC, ATA.
1.25 instructional continuing education credit has been approved by CCHI. One (1) ethics continuing education credit has approved by the Washington DSHS.
Note: All certificates of attendance will include the dates of the live broadcast and recording access period.
Certificates of Attendance will be awarded only to registrants who:
1) watch the entire live webinar and complete a short online quiz, or
2) watch the entire webinar recording and complete a short online quiz.
In order to receive CE credits, the quiz must be successfully completed by February 27nd.
