An Interactive Webshop
A webshop is just like an interactive onsite class, but held online through Zoom. During a webshop, you can ask questions and engage in discussion. You may be divided into “break-out” rooms where you’ll be working with other participants on exercises or on practicing a skill. There may be quizzes and polls. So, while there may be some PowerPoint and lecture, this is not like your typical webinar. Your full attention and participation are expected; that’s what makes it fun!
Interpreters, in addition to other caring professionals, talk with people every day who are facing trying and desperate circumstances. The stress of those situations can begin to encroach on interpreters, affecting their health and ability to serve clients. In order to continuously provide excellent service, it is important for interpreters to focus on self-care to avoid or heal from compassion fatigue. This session will help participants learn about compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma, know how to identify them in their own lives, and create a personal self-care plan.
Saturday, September 11th, 2021, 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. PST with two 15-minute breaks
Check-in at 8:45 a.m. PLEASE CHECK IN AT 8:45 a.m. to sign in. Class from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
The day before the webshop, you will receive an email with log-on instructions and with the handouts for the class.

Yvonne Simpson is Director of Interpreter Services at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. She holds a Master of Arts in Spanish (Linguistics) and has significant experience in interpreting, translating, teaching and training. Yvonne is a DSHS Certified Spanish Medical Interpreter and is a Certified Medical Interpreter through the National Board. She is also a Certified Compassion Fatigue Educator.
Certificates of Attendance will be awarded to all who arrive on time and stay for the entire workshop. Please allow yourself enough time to log on and sign in before the webshop begins. While latecomers are welcome to stay for the educational value of the webshop, DSHS will not provide CE credit if you arrive late, for any reason.
No refunds can be given after September 6th. A $10 processing fee will apply for refunds requested before September 6th. Contact the NOTIS office manager for cancellation. Transfer of credits to another workshop is not allowed.
Registration will be automatically canceled if payment is not received within 15 minutes. Mail-in registration is not available.
